ABOUT ME

PHOTOGRAPHER

KAT MCHENRY

By day, I’m a visual designer. By night (and most weekends), I’m a creative portrait photographer — chasing light, collecting thrifted props, and doing my best to stay creatively sane.

I’m a 30-something based in Indianapolis, IN, where I live with my partner, our one very dramatic dog, two photogenic cats, and a dwindling number of chickens (who regularly contribute to my financial decline). Originally from Wisconsin, I’ve called Indy home since 2011, drawn in by its big-city amenities and small-town vibes.

Who am I?

I’m Kat

I don’t gatekeep because I believe that creativity is best when it’s shared.

Whether you're a model, a beginner, or just a curious soul with an idea — you're welcome here.

Art has always been a big part of my life.

Photography didn’t become my grounding force until early 2020, when burnout from my 9–5 had me spiraling. I started reaching out to local models and artists, rebuilding my portfolio and remembering how good it feels to make something just for the joy of it.

Since then, I’ve collaborated with incredible humans, reconnected with old friends, and grown a community I truly care about.

viewfinder media

When I began freelancing around 2015, I realized I wasn't just a photographer. I was a designer, videographer, editor, and all-around media shapeshifter.

I wanted a name that reflected all those creative hats. Viewfinder Media became that name — a lens through which I capture the world, in whatever medium makes the most magic.
