I still remember how excited and terrified I was when my friend Rachel asked me if I could take over a surprise engagement shoot with Michael and Lydia.
I had never met Michael and Lydia before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I talked details and locations with Michael over text, and he chose Holiday Park to pop the question. I decided to bring my partner Adam along to help me out with the photography. It was early October, and the fall foliage was in full force. We arrived at the park, and I could feel the anticipation from all of us. We had agreed to meet Michael and Lydia towards the entrance near the fake ruins installment.
When we arrived, I was all nerves. Michael texted me they were en route to the spot we had chosen, and Adam and I got into positions, trying to not look suspicious at all. Once they arrived, Michael held Lydia’s hands, talked about their relationship, and dropped to one knee – Adam and I both shooting away.
Once they seemed ready, I introduced ourselves to Michael and Lydia officially and we began the engagement shoot. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly they felt comfortable with the camera. Michael and Lydia were so natural in each other’s presence and I could feel the love between them. The light was beautiful, the weather was perfect, and the couple was so in love. Lydia couldn’t stop smiling and Michael was so proud of himself for having planned such an amazing surprise for his now fiancée.
I watched as Michael and Lydia celebrated their engagement with hugs and kisses, and I felt so fortunate to have been able to be a part of it. I’m so glad I was able to take over for Rachel and make this special day for Michael and Lydia one to remember. This experience was truly unforgettable, and I am so grateful to have been a witness to this beautiful moment.
